The LCM Book Club – You: On a Diet

We are quickly approaching our second month of the LCM Book Club.  For August we’ve chosen You: On a Diet, by Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen.  To join our book club on Facebook click here.  This book is available in the Marketplace under the Reading category and is offered in both hard copy and e-book versions.

“When I read books, I like to read to learn about my body and the way foods effects us. I am not a fan of “fad” diet books, so when I picked this one up, I hesitated. As I paged through the book I saw interesting facts and tips so I bought it for that alone. However, when I dug into the book I realized this was a good find. Even though this book is an approach to slimming the waistline, it gives a lot important information about how our bodies function. The authors explain ordinary body functions and processes and how everything you put inside your body affects those functions. They explain it in such a way that it is easy to understand and you may even have a few ‘Aha!’ moments! The authors use al lot corny humor (along with entertaining illustrations!) so you may find yourself laughing as you read the in-depth information.

Although there are things in the book I do not agree with, like ditching the scale, I did learn a lot from it and it’s worth the read. This book is more about a lifestyle change than a typical diet which I am a total fan of.”

Which Protocol Is Right For You?

hCG Protocol

As many of you know this site promotes the original Dr. Simeons protocol from his book Pounds and Inches.  For the mass majority this is the right protocol.  When you are on hCG you should always feel good.  If you are not feeling good, as I always say “Like a Rockstar” it’s typical there could be something else going on.   You need to first check your hCG dosing and make sure you get the exact amount needed for you.   In Pounds and Inches, Dr Simeons said  dosing for the majority is 125 IU, however there are some who need upwards of 150, 175 and even 200 IU.  We are all different, but when you get the dosing just right you will know it because you will feel great, hungry only at meal times, and sleeping well.  (Click here for more hCG dosage information).

Too much hCG has the opposite effect as well, as you will be anxious and have issues sleeping.

Times when you may need dietary tweaks can be very individual.  What works for one will not work for another.  You have to journal everything and if you are having any issues with hunger, or fatigue you can use this contact form to get help on finding the perfect balance for you. Concerning medical conditions and tolerance of others protocol.  You may run across someone from time to time, especially in the support group who is on a specific protocol not based on the original Simeons protocol in Pounds and Inches.  These protocols are usually put together by their doctors for their specific medical conditions.  Again, this works for some but not for others.  I just wanted to address the issue because some have felt that they could not speak out about “their” personal protocol because of the Simeons Protocol police would object.  Always know that if someone is doing something different there is usually a reason.  I customize menus daily based on good food journals and symptoms presented.  This is your journey, it is individual, and it is about your long term health not just the numbers on the scale.

Stalls are normal on this protocol, so if you see someone doing something different and you have no medical conditions or issues that warrant customization it is best to stick to the original protocol for maximum results.  Those with diabetes or thyroid issues for example sometimes have to do things differently to be able to stay on this diet without negative side effects to their medical conditions. In summary, if you are in doubt ask and we can do an assessment, but do not assume what works for someone else will work for you.  There is a reason for the original protocol.  It was set for the masses and the results out of all the protocols presented still are way above the rest.

You can achieve your goal weight!

This is a great video about setting goals for your hCG weight loss journey.  Zig Ziglar tells you how he lost 37 lbs by writing down his goals and why he wanted to lose it.  Consistency is key to losing the weight.  If you want to take it off and keep it off you need to be deliberate about your plan of action.
